1. Balancing Combat for Different Skill Levels
Designing fast-paced combat that felt fun for both experienced and new players was tricky. It either became too easy or too overwhelming.

Solution: I introduced enemy types gradually, varied cover placements, and used smaller encounters before big fights to ramp up difficulty smoothly.

Linear levels can sometimes feel too predictable or restrictive. Keeping them fun while maintaining direction was challenging.

Solution: I added small optional spaces, verticality, and dynamic enemy placements to create variation and surprise without breaking flow.

Solution: I embraced modular design so I could tweak sections without redoing the whole layout.

One of the biggest challenges was creating a training level that made sense to non-gamers. Many players didn’t realize they needed to take action or interact with the environment, leading to confusion and delays in progressing.

One of the biggest challenges was creating a training level that made sense to non-gamers. Many players didn’t realize they needed to take action or interact with the environment, leading to confusion and delays in progressing.
Solution: I improved clarity by using clear visual prompts, camera focus techniques, and contextual hints like blinking lights, arrows, and simple signage. I also introduced one mechanic at a time in a safe space before combining them, making the learning curve smoother and more intuitive.
